This is part of a series of posts about Silver Linings. There are a lot of shitty things about chronic illness, but there are some hidden surprises that are actually quite good. These are the good things.
One of the nice things about having visible markers of disability (either my cane or my walker) means I never have to run to catch a bus anymore. If I don’t quite make it to the stop in time I simply flag the bus down and it’ll pick me up. It’s not like I could run to catch it anyway. Any time I’ve tried it has taken me a couple days for my breathing to recover so it’s not worth it.
It’s a small perk but one that I really appreciate.
